Job description

A Biological Technical Assistant (BTA) position is available, initially for two years, in the Molecular Mechanism of Meiosis team at Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research (MPIPZ) in Cologne, Germany.

Our group is interested in understanding the mechanisms of meiosis and meiotic recombination using the plant Arabidopsis thaliana as the main model system. We use a wide range of tools comprising molecular biology, genetics, genomics, cytology, and biochemistry to decipher the underlying mechanisms of meiosis and meiotic recombination.

The BTA is expected to collaborate closely with scientists in the team  ‘Molecular Mechanism of Meiosis’. She or he will be involved in molecular biology (genotyping, cloning, transformation…), cytology (Sample preparation, epifluorescence microscopy, confocal and super-resolution microscopy), and plant work (crossing, sampling...).

Our requirements

We seek a highly motivated candidate with a background in genetics and/or molecular biology and/or cytology. Experience in cellular biology would be an asset and previous working experience with plants would be appreciated but not mandatory. Qualification as a BTA or comparable qualification is required. The working language of the laboratory is English and a good capacity to communicate in English is essential.

The salary will be based on your qualifications and follow the recommendations of TVöD Bund. Social benefits correspond with those of the public service.
