How is the distribution of chromosomes controlled at meiosis?

This project will be supervised by Raphael Mercier at the Max Planck Institute for Plant Breeding Research.

Abstract:

Meiosis is an essential stage in the life cycle of sexually reproducing organisms. A few key features distinguish meiosis from mitosis, including the co-segregation of sister chromatids at meiosis I and a second round of division without replication. In this project, we aim to use genetic screens, molecular biology, and advanced microscopy to understand the modifications of the kinetochore and cell cycle machinery that ensure the proper and unique distribution of chromosomes at meiosis.
